G.H. 2.5

     Hey guys and welcome back to the blog! I'm incredibly pleased with this week's dish! I know I cooked chicken last week, but we had some in the fridge and it was just calling my name. I really did add to it though by making it lemon pepper chicken. 

       My first step was letting the chicken thaw. That took way longer than I thought and it ended up taking the chicken about three hours to totally thaw. After that I did the usual and greased the pan, covered the chicken in olive oil, sprinkled it with salt and then almost dumped the whole can of pepper on the chicken. I didn't want to throw the chicken out so instead I scraped the pepper off. Then I added the finishing touches on it by squeezing half of a lemon on the chicken and letting it sit in the fridge for thirty minutes.

    After that I guesstimated and it worked. I couldn't exactly remember what the specific time and temperature to cook the chicken, but I believed it was 300 degrees and 30 minutes and sent it. It turned out very well!!!! I mean the pepper was a bit strong, given my little spill, but over all it tasted pretty good. 

    I'm noticing a recurring theme though, through out this project and it is that I don't follow recipes often or closely. This next week my goal is to find a recipe and follow it closely. I think I'm going to cook some kind of curry!

    How do you plan to follow a recipe this week? It looks like your making progress! I like that you are able to notice your mistakes and are fixing them! Cant wait for next week!

    Do you find yourself enjoying the art of experimenting with cooking more than following recipes? I love reading recipes but taking little changes to them as I've been raised in a culinary household. Do you read cooking websites, books, or watch videos?

Learning Sign Language 1.1

      For my first week of Genius Hour I learned the ASL alphabet. It was a lot more fun than I expected. I used the The Comprehensive Signed English Dictionary and the pictures it has in the front cover of the book. I broke the alphabet into sections and learned the letters bit by bit. A through D was very easy to learn, and I caught onto them very quick. I really struggled on the letters F, S, and T. To fix this little issue I watched a YouTube video of a lady signing the alphabet and signed in time with her. Throughout the week I also filmed myself signing the alphabet so I could see if I was holding my hands correctly.        Next week I will be learning basic greetings and phrases. Phrases like: "Hi! How are you?" and "What's your name?" will be a very beneficial to learn from the start. Hopefully I enjoy learning them as much as I did the alphabet.

      Hey guys! Welcome back to the blog! I haven't been following my initial outline very closely, I thought why not shake things up again and take his week to learn about the ASL culture! I read a couple articles that really gave me some insightful knowledge. The first article I read was from Minnesota Hands and Voices. The article talked about the deaf community and the benefits of being involved in it. Being involved helps improve one's self esteem, gain fellowship and respect the use of sign language.      The second article I pretty much covered the same topics as the first one. It talked a bit more about how to properly identify a deaf person. The appropriate terms are "hard of hearing" or "deaf". Offensive terms toward a deaf person is "disabled" or "hearing impaired" are offensive. I also watched a video on negation in ASL.            Hey guys welcome back ! This week I decided I would make waffles to kick off the second week of my genius hour. I have come to the conclusion that breakfast food is quite easy to make. Waffles were a pretty cut and dry meal. I used Bisquick batter, and I personally hate the way it tastes, so I decided to add sugar to make it more flavorful.           After I read the directions, and got out the ingredients I mixed them up in a bowl. My mom said I need to be sure stirred the batter to the right consistency. The batter shouldn't be watery like soup, but you don't want it to be clumpy either. I stirred in search of the goldie locks consistency and once I thought I'd found it, I poured the batter onto the waffle maker.         A major lesson I learned through out this meal was patience.
